Very nice! I especially like the parts where the music broadens out beyond the main "barcarolle" melody, if you know what I mean?

Thank you, John. Yes, - where it broadens. That's where I have some license (in the context) to expand a bit of the harmonic content as well. I can always (it seems) count on you to offer a reflection that really gets at what Im attempting. Im very thankful for your impressions.
It's been a year and a half of writing this thing - which will be about 200 pages after I complete the last 4 pieces. Sheesh! (if I had known how much time it would take -- not sure I would have started it). But as I round the corner, I feel a surge, especially knowing that very little will need to be explained in depth, - (which is the part I'm so utterly tired of doing) - and a perfect set-up to getting back to the blank canvas. (can't wait). Using words as a creative tool doesn't do friendly things to my psyche. I reflect on that Shostakovich quote: 'In the long run, any words about music are less important than the music.' Throw in a Ravel for a chaser: “Music, I feel, must be emotional first and intellectual second."

ps... speaking of composers who use words as a creative tool as well - (write books) - I always marvel at the ease of which they can change hats. Like Charles Rosen, Harry Partch, Elliot Carter, hell don't forget Sun Ra's autobiography, Miles, and on and on... Oh, John, and not to be missed is the Hilarious 'Conversations with Stravinsky' by the composer Robert Craft. What a romp that is! Or Ned Rorem's candid diary tales for a splash of melodrama.. Perhaps I should start a thread about composers who write

Are you self-publishing? It might be worthy to hire an editor to work through your prose. It's wrong to assume that *anyone* who is published successfully actually wrote all those words on their own...

These guys aren't 'anyone' though - a few Are formal writers in the medium, but - Yes, you are right .. (and that is somewhat comforting, I think:) I'm very lucky to have a friend - a professional writer to edit my book. To my surprise, she's actually excited to do it! (She really helped in my short bio). Thanks for asking!
Funny anecdote re this subject. I teach 3 kids piano whose dad is a famous Rock Icon. He recently had some writers live with him for a week to take long interviews, and then put together his autobiography. He recently got the first draft to approve, and he hated it. He spent the last few months rewriting practically the whole book.
