Hey All, sorry, I've been out of commission for quite a while, but getting back into the swing of things...
Anyone have specific recommendations for home studio vocal microphones? I don't have an enormous budget, but willing to spend more if the quality differences are worth it.
Thanks!

Not being a singer I've only used mics for acoustic instruments and amps. There'll be plenty of reviews and articles on the subject, though. The peripherals are almost as important - shockmount, one of those semicircular reflection filters, pop filter, etc.
SM58 is a good cheap standard, but I'm sure you could do better even on a budget. Then consider the style you'll be recording, and the voice . . . ideally a microphone will suit and enhance the qualities of whatever you're doing.

Personally, I think the SM58 is the perfect mic for everything. But you should probably use an upright style large diaphragm studio mic for vocals. Most have a 1" diameter diaphragm. Behringer and Audio Technica have some that start between 1 and 2 hundred dollars.

The various engineers I've worked w - seem to always break out the Neumann mics. for vocals. Not sure which model… though quite expensive, I understand that they Can be rented.. (especially if you knock out the vocals in a couple of days)..

Thanks, all! I'm going with an Audio Technica 2020 ($99). This is music for one of my partner's projects so I think it will be sufficient (for now!)

late here John, but just thought I'd mention a pop shield.... Yes, got one! I'm going to be recording my partner's voice for one of her videos (music written by me, but entirely sung/spoken by her). This is going to be an interesting workflow...
