Hi, folks, my name is Alexandre.
Unlike most of you, I don't play any instruments. I played in several bands, but only singing (or screaming, on some of them). I tried to learn eletric guitar, guitar, drums, but never had the commitment.
Some time ago, I began to listen to classical music, something I always enjoyed, but never in a systematic way (I only listened to the half dozen songs I was familiar with). Well, searching for songs at YouTube I found videos of classic music with the synchronized score.
Long story short, it sparked my interest in music theory. So, even without the aid of any instruments I began to study by means of using notation software (Musescore for now).
It's being an awesome experience, because I'm composing my songs. Even limited on spontaneity, because I can't simply play something on a piano and notate, it's very funny.
So, that's it. I hope I can learn somethings with you guys, nice to meet you all!
PS: Sorry about my english, not my native language.

Alexandre,
You are most welcome here. Thanks for joining us. Of course you play an instrument. Voice is the most personal instrument. And now you play computer. MuseScore is a great free way to get started. And if you download Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra for MuseScore, you could go a long way with it. And everyone will have their own opinions on how you should procede. I write in notation software with a mouse. I'd written music for some time before I joined a forum where I could post some of my stuff. I was reluctant at first because I was afraid of what others would say. Well, no one threw up on listening, so I guess that was as good a start as I could hope for. When you're ready, we are looking forward to hearing your music

MuseScore is a great way to start. For more specific advice, though, it would be easier to help if you posted actual pieces that you have composed. Music is such a broad field that it's really hard to give general advice without a specific sample to talk about.

You're right, in a sense. The voice is an instrument too. It's just that deep down I have some regrets about the way I managed my passion for music. Anyway, maybe sometime, when my daughter gets older and I have some more spare time, I'll try piano? As for the music I compose, it's mainly for my personal satisfaction. I'll post something I'm composing soon. Let's see what you all can do to help me improve.
