99dollarorchestra.com/Good chance I'm going to take one for the team soon and see how it turns out. 30 or 50 piece orchestra @ respectively $99 and $169 for 7 minutes recording time, with a few other options like more expensive London musicians. Going by their samples, the London recordings are the best, but their own "epic" 50piece sounds pretty good, albeit a slightly lower standard of production and playing. I might not trust full pieces to it, but certainly an option for shorter cues and tests. Hell, $99 just to use their full brass section for 7 minutes is great value. That said . . . I'm a bit perturbed by the fact that some elements of their site still link to the default Wix social accounts. Probably not a scam, but. Hmm. Thoughts?

No personal experience, but I recall reading on another forum of someone who did use them. He was pleased with the results, but cautioned about how fast 7 minutes goes by. You definitely need to have everything in order for the session regarding the score, parts, etc. If I can find the post, I'll get it to you to read.
Also seems communication with them is an issue, and the schedule for the actual session can be an issue.

Thanks Tim, that'd be good to see. From my experience I think they're being generous with what's achievable in 7 minutes (depends on music of course) so I would about double it - 14 mins per minute at least for an orchestra that they describe as good but not the best. Still excellent value. My 60s piece Elaborate Revenge Strategies was planned at 18 minutes for fiddliness and I added another 2 or 3 on the day.

Oh god. That's deeply worrying but not entirely a surprise. For having recorded so many pieces (they claim) they had so few samples that it was odd.
They said that sessions get delayed until they have enough pieces of music to fill it up, which is understandable, but also rubbish for a professional business model. People waiting a year for their pieces and then getting them played not only poorly but partially? I will avoid. Thanks for linking.

What a fiasco. Thanks for that heads up Tim as I was pondering using them too for their brass section.

Marc Papeghin is excellent and very reasonable in cost - he recorded my horn/trumpet tests. Though that leaves bones and tuba, and of course it wouldn't be quite the same sound multitracking as 10 or so brass players all performing at once. www.realbrass.co.uk/ or this guy seems to offer all the instruments by sourcing whatever players are needed. Great trumpeter as well. What a fiasco. Thanks for that heads up Tim as I was pondering using them too for their brass section.

Thanks Dave, I recall Papeghin did a good job with your stuff. Real brass looks interesting too.
It may be useful to have a thread of web addresses for remote players.
