Boot I think you are one or two steps in front of me with the midi editor. Now I have sound how can I use the keyboard to create some kind of notation or what exactly is the next step I need to be doing. Thanks I'll tell you everything I know (such as it is) about MIDI in REAPER. But FIRST... You've got to put a little something into the pot, too. Please explain for the next REAPER Newbie on a MAC - the MAC-specific thing they'll need to do in order to get sound. In this way, others may avoid the same stumbling block that you've now conquered. That's the purpose of a 'Help' thread. Thanx

That's the purpose of a 'Help' thread. Thanx Checking for sound after installing Reaper and your Keyboard. If you are getting no sound and you have done the easy checks like is the sound turned up. Make sure that reaper has found your vsti keyboard. Open up a track then click anywhere in Reaper and look at the top of the screen where you should see the tool bar. On the right hand side after the word Window there should be some numbers and letters, click on that. In the drop down click on audio device settings and make sure your Audio Device is set to Built in Output. That should get you playback.

REAPER's MIDI Editor Notation View.
As many of you already know, I'm personally not into notation so much, so I'm not sure if this will do you any good. But I want to tell you about REAPER's optional MIDI Editor Notation View. To easily enable this feature - while in the MIDI editor, hit Alt+4 (pc) or Option+4 (mac). You can read all the details in the freely downloadable REAPER User Guide, page 267.

I think your 5.30 has to be different from mine Boot.

RIGHT click on track 1's record button. What are your options?

Fifth item down - "Record input " - you want that.
Further down - "MIDI" - hover over that and select the appropriate MIDI input for your setup. Just select your MIDI keyboard and 'All channels' for now.

I see you are mobile now and cannot send a screen shot. I click on the record button and nothing happens apart from the levels moving.
You mentioned fifth item down, which drop down menu is that in Boot?

You mentioned fifth item down, which drop down menu is that in Boot? Don't left-click - RIGHT click. While we're at it, you can right click almost everything in REAPER and get a lot of information about whatever you're clicking on.

That's weird. Is this another 'Mac Thing'? (Would you just get a pc - we'd have your first midi symphony down by now).
Let me see what I can find out.
