Anyone using it? I have a suggestion for a sound font.

I don't use MuseScore, but I do use sound fonts. Would appreciate pointers to any good sound fonts -- there are plenty of free ones online but sad to say the vast majority of them are pretty disappointing.

Would appreciate pointers to any good sound fonts -- there are plenty of free ones online but sad to say the vast majority of them are pretty disappointing. I only mention it because the sounds that come with it are GM. Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra has been what I have added to it, being sampled sounds. And free. SSO is usually found in SFZ format. With a little digging, it can be found in SF2, which is what MS normally needs. Since I first posted this, I learned that MS will now take SFZ, but the instructions are not very clear on how to install this format. But at least there is now the chance to be able to use better sounds. I only use MS rarely, but was pointed to sounds by Versilian Studios that are free and even better than SSO. Sure these things are free and, as such, are not top of the line. MS certainly has many limitations. I must say that had my wife not been able to get an education discount on Sibelius, I either would not be writing at all, or at the most, be using MS. I think we are more limited by ourselves than we are by our tools. I could own the very best of everything software wise, but if I'm a junkie composer ( a subject on which the jury is still out) it means nothing.

Ah. I do have a copy of SSO, it's not bad, but I find that some of the articulations are too weak. It limits what I can write. But that's more a problem with my notation program output, which is very crude MIDI, than a fault with SSO necessarily. One of these days I just have to sit down and figure out a way to massage the MIDI output into something more usable with SSO.
Thanks for the tip about Versilian Studios, though. I'll look them up.
