Again, my attempt here is to create a kind of journey in about 2 and a half minutes.. (After doing so many with this framework, Im beginning to wonder if Ill ever again be able to write the longer line This one is pushing a bit more on the harmonic content - (hopefully alluring enough to the student) - . Hey Boot, this one is a bit jazzy:) I hope you guys are ok. soundcloud.com/progstudiespiano/ch-7-the-long-good-bye-f1

Good work. Nice extensions.
We good here (Michigan). Today was grocery store day... I hate grocery store day. Safe back in the house, now. Working on a new Orchestral template in a new (to me) REAPER theme. Lookin' pretty sw**ky, if I do say so, myself. However, it may be my way of avoiding dealing w/ my low creative output. A stall. Just what I need.
Blank page syndrome.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for listening, Boot. Blank page? With that new orchestral template, you may find (as I do ) that by just noodling around for a while, some fragment may catch, and before you know it ....

Nice, G. It sounds like someone having trouble saying farewell, struggling with the words almost? Do you know the app/website SoundSlice? I am listening to a podcast about it: www.scoringnotes.com/podcast/soundslices-adrian-holovaty/Since it's primarily intended as a teaching tool (sheet music lined up with a recording/video), I thought it might be a good fit with your progressive piano book...? Boot, templates are time well spent. If you're stuck staring at a blank page, make sure you're staring at the right one!

Thanks John... yes, well it is called the L o n g good-bye I think that Dylan Thomas poem, 'Rage against the dying of the light', has been wreaking havoc on my subconscious since late adolescence Interesting link. I may indeed want to look into this. Thanks! "If you're stuck staring at a blank page, make sure you're staring at the right one!" Haha Reminds me of this joke for some reason: What's the difference between capitalism and communism? A: Under communism, Man exploits Man. Under capitalism, it is exactly the opposite.

Huh, how did I miss this one for almost more than a whole year?! (Ack, even my sense of time has been messed up) Oh right, the pandemic happened... The opening chords immediately strike me as your personal style (that's a compliment btw! ), and the passage starting around 1:40 reminds me of one of your fugues. Not sure to what to say about the rest of the piece. I admit to having difficulty relating to the harmonic language, but the sense of hesitancy is definitely there, which is perhaps the most important point, I suppose.

Thank for listening, HS. The harmonic language make take a few listenings - before making sense. Though, it may not, as well. This aspect is perhaps the most personal, and the least easy to explain "why?" I can only point you - as a reference to that type harmonic flow - to the jazz ballads of Chet Baker, on trumpet and voice. Imagining the melody of this piece with trumpet, with small jazz ensemble - is kind of in the ball park.

I did listen quite a few times, but still had trouble following the harmony. But will give it a few more listens later. Sometimes these things take time. I remember the first time I heard the Khatchaturian piano concerto I really had trouble with it. But after many listens it sorta "makes sense" now.

I appreciate you troubling yourself with multiple listenings, however this may not be fruitful. Sometimes tunes don't speak to ya. (A lot of times, for me.) Hate to send you down the garden path. I remember being part of a rehearsal (in my youth) for Shost's 5th symphony. For two months, we rehearsed. I loved the first and last movement. The 2nd movement I couldn't bear -- week after week.. By the time of performance, it was my favorite movement... and favorite piece, for a while. Try this one, if you feel inclined. A happy mix of Bach and Beethoven - of sorts. It's only 2 minutes. I think you might like it. soundcloud.com/progstudiespiano/ch-6-new-year-overture

It reminds me of your gigue-fantasy fugue for some reason. 😅 Something about the way you write chromatic sequences and arpeggio figures, I think. Hmm, I tried listening to the track of this topic again but it seems it's not accessible anymore? I wanted to give it a few more listens.
