I'd not heard of this instrument. Very curious, - especially being invented it 1928 - a precursor of what is coming to the keyboard.. After a while, I felt the melody was lacking a certain dynamic quality, that a voice or clarinet might bring - which I felt the Ondes was 'trying' to imitate in the context of this piece.. Though in other context, like where a theremin might be used, I could see a place for it.. Funny, I can't help but reflect on Stokowski's race to get the rights for 'Pictures' ahead of Ravel. Lots of angling there. But also, to hear the trombone player of Stokowski's orchestra saying He wrote the arrangement of Bach's Toccata, and Not Stokowski.. 'He asked me to do it, and he claimed the credit'... I also recall how he affected his speaking accent to make it appear he wasn't from the states (If my long term memory is to be trusted).. Such an exotic creature (of self propoganda, that one though I do, absolutely love some of his recordings... (edit)
