A beautiful piece - very sensitively performed! Fantastically crafted. (I wouldn't have minded a few mlld harmonic shocks - within context, of course). Thanks for posting. It prompts me to hear more choral recordings.

It prompts me to hear more choral recordings. Yeah, I hadn't heard this piece in quite a while and my now much older, more critical brain had a similar assessment as yours. The piece was written for the opening of Tanglewood and allegedly, Randall Thompson finished it at the very last moment such that the ink was still wet on the paper when they started rehearsal...!

Hmmmm. I'm not sure there is any context where a few harmonic shocks would be appropriate here.
