I know many people use it. Years ago, not long after it came out, I went to the website and listened to the examples. I thought it was OK up until I listened to the Haydn trumpet concerto. It was pretty much a jazz version. NP lost me there. I know it's supposed to "read ahead" and play your music more like "real" musicians would. But what if NPs real interpretation is nothing like my own?
Not trying to argue here, just thinking out loud. So I watched some youtube videos comparing NP with Sib 7 sounds. Of course the NP version sounds better. Then I noticed that the Sib version has no reverb. In fact, the Sib version sounds like the person just loaded default sounds and hit Play. The default sounds can sound deadly. Sib sounds are meant to be tweaked to your taste. And much tweaking can, and should, be done. Don't want to be bothered with adjusting sounds? Fine.
So i recently went back the the website. They've revamped the trumpet concerto. Now the orchestra is just as bombastic and un-baroque as ever. But the trumpet is about as musical as a flat tire. I know NP isn't expensive, but on my salary, I still can't justify it.
I know it's not fair to dis it with out trying it. But I'm not really interested in the trial, either.
I go back to a time when recordings of real orchestras didn't sound all that good. As long as my output sounds better as that,I'm happy. I know you're thinking that that's a pretty low bar. But consider that I could have multiple thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Yet my music on someone else's rig won't sound the same as it does on mine. I run into this all the time.
Anyway, not a big deal. Just trying to get some action going.
