If you're entering, please register your interest below. I'll need at least five participants. Rules:Duration - 3 minutes max, 30s minimum. Style, instrumentation, etc. - any. Does not need to be classical, traditional or acoustic. You are limited to using B, F, C# and G# chords as a harmonic basis. You must use each at least twice. You may use any mixture of major and minor versions that you wish, so for example if you only want to use G twice you could use Gmaj and Gmin. Clearly there's a certain amount of looseness when taking into account additional melodies and harmonies, but the point is to restrict your composition to a very specific set of harmonies and see how you write within that - so if you immediately work out ways to break the restrictions the point has been missed. Deadline - 12pm GMT, Wednesday 1st November. Format - please export as mp3 up to 320kbps. No wavs, aifs, flacs or other. Score - not needed, I will only upload audio. Submission - email to me at davedextermusiconline@gmail.com. If you get creative with what you send me I'll burn down the internet. Judging process - I will upload the pieces to soundcloud or youtube as anonymous files and link to in the forum. Judging will be by forum members in a manner yet to be decided. Prize - the knowledge that you won, and your piece will be linked to forum-wide for two weeks as an announcement at the top of all boards. Any questions, down below please!

Inversions and passing notes are OK, right? Just no added 7ths/9ths/etc?

I believe Dave said in an earlier post about using minimal passing chords.

Alright, in spite of me being currently in the mode of juggling two fugue WIPs at the same time, I'll sign up as well. It would be a nice break from fugal writing for a bit. (Or will I end up writing a fugue based on these 4 chords? Haha, we shall see!)

Excellent.
FS, don't worry too much about it. I won't be voting so it's up to everyone else if they think a few passing notes is cheating (it isn't!). As for inversions, my understanding of an inversion is just the same chord in different positions, so the harmony doesn't change.

Inversions and passing notes are OK, right? Just no added 7ths/9ths/etc? Wait! No 6ths, 7ths, 9ths (neither flatted nor demented), 13ths, etc? Yikes.

I feel too many meals are being made out of this. "You are limited to using B, F, C# and G# chords as a harmonic basis. You must use each at least twice. You may use any mixture of major and minor versions that you wish, so for example if you only want to use G twice you could use Gmaj and Gmin. It's four chords lads, go nuts
