I'll go first.
I'm Dave Dexter, admin and composer neophyte. I play guitar and associated fretted instruments, and have been composing for games since around 2011.
About two years ago I changed focus to learn about what I'd always loved but found intimidatingly complex - soundtracks, orchestral music and the composition thereof. I wanted to create soundtracks (or concertos, or symphonies - whatever anyone wants, really) which meant I wanted to be able to deliver a piece from conception to performance without relying on anyone else. The previous forum and members were invaluable in assisting me and, whilst there is as ever a huge cliff of esoterica to climb, I've this year passed my initial hurdles: getting music successfully recorded by musicians.
I want to sustain and refine the resources and knowledge of the old forum and offer any help I can to composers who are in the shoes I occupied (and still occupy in many ways).

Nitpick: you didn't actually introduce yourself in 3rd person, but in 1st person.

The title was in 3rd person, and since that was the introduction I feel vindicated. This is OO levels of counter-nitpicking, but meh. Nitpick: you didn't actually introduce yourself in 3rd person, but in 1st person.

You've no idea (or probably you do). Those recordings still cheer me up if I'm feeling down about my ambitions. Great to hear ones music being performed.

Haha, I should feel ashamed to be compared to OO, but for some reason I'm not. BTW, finally got round to listening to your linked live performances. Awesome recordings!! I can see why it will cheer you right up when you're feeling down.

OMG!!! OO's here? say it ain't so Dave, say it ain't so!! I don't think I ever commented on the other site, but these are all excellent representations of your craft. I'm guessing you learned more in the little bit of time with these musicians than you could have ever gleaned from years of study and research. There's something about a live person playing your s..., er, I mean stuff.
Well done Dave!!!!

I sure hope OO ain't here and never will be. That might be just the thing that will kill off this community for good. It's already bad enough that there's bad blood with some people in the old forum that will likely not join us here, i.e. we might not attain critical mass. If OO showed up that may the last nail in this coffin.

If he does, or I suspect he does, I'll watch carefully and warn, suspend or ban as appropriate. No way I'm going to allow that nonsense here; the advantage of proboards is that people (and I) can take an active role in suppressing trouble. Oh and thanks FS and Tim - the orchestral pieces especially were polished and revised obsessively before recording but only live playing confirms if you've got the details right. But to get to that practical knowledge, I still had to spend two years asking people questions I sure hope OO ain't here and never will be. That might be just the thing that will kill off this community for good. It's already bad enough that there's bad blood with some people in the old forum that will likely not join us here, i.e. we might not attain critical mass. Just be careful of over-vigilance in your zeal to moderate. Sometimes it's just what's needed, but other times it may backfire in ways you don't anticipate. Just sayin'.

I think it is a shame that quite a few composers only ever get to hear their music on a PC, there is nothing like getting musicians to play your stuff, just as long as they can play it!

OTOH, the PC is sometimes the only way some random nobody like myself can hear their music.

I can understand that Bob, I just think it is a shame that more amateur orchestras don't want to play music from living composers especially as there are a lot of them about looking to hear their music live.

No, part of my ongoing programme of self-investment to test my writing outside a DAW. I've just started planning a large session for next year. You've no idea (or probably you do). Those recordings still cheer me up if I'm feeling down about my ambitions. Are these tracks commissions Dave?
