Help me (a member) understand why we have quite a few guest-visitors, but so few new members. I don't understand the reluctance to join. It's surely not the cost (free). So, please enlighten me. What's the deal? Yeah, there's not much going on here at the moment, but that's because you haven't joined!

Personally, though I consider myself a 'composer', I don't actually compose classical music... probably. I couldn't tell you what writes itself onto my pages, to be quite honest.
In other words, I'm a complete noob who has very little to the discussion of boleros and waltzes, aside from a confirmation that, yes, I know what a note is. I imagine most of the guests are lurkers who feel they have more to learn than to add.
Sorry that this place feels so empty, though.

There aren't as many visitors as you think. Most of them are Bing, Facebook, Google, etc spiders, crawling and indexing the site. I'm a spider too, and now that I've indexed my own comment, my work is done here.

"So where were the spiders While the fly tried to break our balls? Just the beer light to guide us So we bitched about his fans And should we crush his sweet hands?" From the great Rock 'Opera' - ? Hey John, I guess we are reduced to a couple of characters in a Beckett play

Haha! and since you ,mention, have you seen 'Hamilton'? Id be curious about your thoughts if you have. Does it set another bar? Does the musical hybrid succeed as a most convincing statement in itself? I think of others (composer/teams) doing Broadway in their attempting other types of hybrids. ? What say you, Vladimir ?

Yeah, we saw the version that was released on Disney streaming. It's obviously a work of particular genius, but I think still very grounded in the affectations of modern musical theater (which TBH, is not very appealing to me). I was also struck that the political content seems naive and sentimental based on what's been happening over the past four years (and is ongoing). A work that's only 5 years old and yet has not aged terribly well.

Interesting to hear your thoughts, John. I must admit that I was very impressed with the craftsmanship, and enjoyed a few tunes quite a bit. I had been teaching some of the material to piano students (at their enthusiastic request) and became familiar w some of it that way. Looking at the score - a piano reduction, didn't offer much in the way of musicality for a student's rendering, which I didn't find very satisfying. Due to the oder, I kept at arms length from listening/watching the whole production. It was from this perspective that I finally watched - at my wife's admonition - the whole thing - and found myself delightfully surprised, and realized I had sold it short. But, having said that, I find no impulse to watch again, as I felt the stylistic trappings didn't get much beyond a cliche ... Sondheim seemed quite enthusiastic about it. I have mixed feeling about his work , though Sweeney Todd - well, it's been a long time, perhaps will revisit.. (But was working w a soprano on a number from that, which I grew to hate - though probably affected by her having technical difficulties w it. 'Hasn't aged well'. Wow. That is the fastest aging I have ever heard of! ps. As far as the political bent, I found it difficult to comprehend much of the words, where any subtlety of meaning was surely lost on me. Especially w the machine gun approach to the rhythm of the words, sometimes.. and didn't want to follow along w the libretto. I felt pretty dumb in this regard other than just a generalized understanding.

I am hoping to join this forum to get ideas, discussion and possibly assistance on an app I am developing for the visually impaired that translates an image to sound. I tried transforming pixel information to chords, with dissonance as a result. This forum looks perfect for discussion and possibly assistance in achieving consonance with possibly three sympathetic melodies. My membership is pending. i hope that my membership is approved so that I may post about this. Thank-you.

On June 10, 2023, the Ning site's last perturbation of the cosmos was detected by our receivers as it transcended the Kuiper belt and rushed inexorably toward the impossibly infinte edge of observable spacetime. It is surmised that the immense, bloated cloud that was once Gavin's ego was largely dissipated and subsequently euthanized by HAARP assets whilst passing through the upper ionosphere.
Whether a faint and trailing cry of "aaaarrgghhh.." was actually heard has been an avidly debated controversy amongst our signals technicians.

Hey PXGC - very poetic, and telling... I just checked out the new redesigned site. Looks great! The wheel makes a full turn - (weren't you there at its beginning - a decade plus ago?).

Hey PXGC - very poetic, and telling... I just checked out the new redesigned site. Looks great! The wheel makes a full turn - (weren't you there at its beginning - a decade plus ago?). Indeed I was, Gx. That was a milder day, when we had fun with strange (or deranged?) conversation and free, liberal exploration of ideas. There was no animosity, although sometimes lively jabs and jousting! Then, less benevolent actors joined the site and it spiraled into a snake pit. The history of the site is (partially) archived on Waybackmachine, or some such resource. You can search as required (commensurate with your curiosity).
I'm (hopefully) not being conceited when I assert that I drove a lot of the momentum there, in its nascent years. There were many much more talented individuals than myself, many professionals, real composers, as well. But, I made the place interesting, I believe, because I was willing to throw it all out there, absorb personal abuse (in good fun, and sometimes not), and really deliver new and controversial concepts to the field (passionately, btw, perhaps too passionately at times), with a touch of humour. The sad reality is that most detect humour as a signature of illegitimacy, and discard the rest of the message, even though it might be a dissertation on something of profound meaning, compositionally, or even metalogically.
Anyway, I apologize for all of the typos I know are present, demarcated by squiggly red underscores. I'm old now, and nearly blind. I've taught Tensor Calculus, QFT, and GR for the last decade. I am very happy and content with my present course (and unable to alter it, if I weren't). I grabbed the opportunity to reclaim the domain just in case former members wanted to contribute and interact. Will I compose music again? I don't know. Perhaps I can be inspired to the task by my old forum friends.
Anyway, good to hear from you Gx. Keep writing, and best wishes.

Hey Kristofer, yes, I remember that absurdist snake-pit drama.. no need to revisit that story:) I personally enjoyed your rye sense of humor, too bad feeble folks - by definition, haven't learned to roll with even mild complexity.
From a macro perspective, it seems that any hope of getting to the (dying) heart of the matter (like HAARP - or JFK, or... anything that insures sane management) is as remote as Orion's belt.
Congratulations and kudos to you for resurrecting composers forum!
I look forward to participating in the activity there, and am very thankful for the dissipation of bloated clouds.
